Today the Member for Bellarine the Hon. Lisa Neville MP facilitated a meeting for BACA representatives to meet with the Minister for Health the Hon. Jill Hennessy MP .
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the ongoing angst in the community relating to the decision by the Board of Bellarine Community Health to withdraw from the provision of residential aged care, and the processes the Board adopted.
The Minister clearly indicated she understood the depth of this -community angst and concern about the processes adopted by the Board and will consider a range of options which will address the issues raised.
Three key points from the KPMG Review (66 pages):
1. Consultation and broad community participation about major strategic planning has been limited. (Page 41, 4.4.2)
2. Table 5 provides a summary of key dates and events which are referred to in the discussion. (Page 45)
3. The Review has found that BCH Board decision to exit aged care was made prior to consulting or engaging the local community and that there were initially limited communications to prepare the community for such a change.
